“In Siberia, if you want something, you have to make a great effort to get it. All I wanted was a Zeta. And now that I have it, I don't know what I'd do without it.” Artjom Yakushenko

"It's about breaking boundaries. I've been making beats in the studio for years, and Zeta's midi technology allows me to take that experience and apply it to my fiddle playing. There's nothing more thrilling than feeling the dance floor tremble to our trance jam in Devil Went Down to Georgia."

Bio
JOHN YOHAN KIM was trained in and exposed exclusively to classical music until the age of 12, when the praise band leader at his church solicited Kim as his understudy. Here Kim first learned the basics of the drumkit, electric bass, guitar, as well as techniques for improvisation and the theory behind modern music. Within two years Kim went on to start his own band, Second Sight, where he played electric guitar and violin.
Throughout high school and his adventures into Gun's and Roses and Metallica, Kim continued with his classical studies at the New England Conservatory where many of his peers in the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra continued on to pursue studies at premiere conservatories including Julliard and Curtis. Armed with the knowledge that conservatory life was far too restricted for his liking, Kim went on to study at The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania.
One would never have guessed that the world's premiere business school would provide Kim with the diverse musical experience essential for this destined musical path. It was there, in the west Philadelphia apartment of ChaosExistence DJ Mauricio Zuniga, that Kim first explored electronic music. Spinning drum and bass records and producing Goa Trance beats exposed Kim to a whole new world of music technology in midi, sequencing and sampling.
His time at Penn also provided for opportunity to sing in an a capella group, as well as continue his classical interests with the University Symphony and various chamber ensembles. A completely new classical interest was formed when Kim enrolled in Beginning Tabla with Pandit K Prashant. Weekly lessons in North Indian or "Hindustani" music accompanied by lessons on life from his guru developed into a relationship of numerous collaborations in the studio and in live performance.
By the end of his college career, Kim decided that he wanted to pursue music and formed his roots fusion band, THE ALLY. Aligned with extremely talented musicians, Kim found himself able to incorporate his wide array of musical experiences in this ensemble. With explosive growth on tour in their first year of existence, THE ALLY is presently working on their first studio album, due out in January, 2002.
When not on tour or in the studio with THE ALLY, Kim keeps himself busy with various other engagements. He has appeared as a guest with The Disco Biscuits, The Brother's Pat, Captain Dank's Allstars as well as performing in the Flaco Allstar Jam. He has scored several films and is now scoring and acting in the Theatre Production of "Good Country People" at the Shubin Theatre in Philadelphia.
